Plant Lists

We’ll add plant lists for each field trip as they are available. Also, there’s an exciting new GPS app offering that pinpoint directions for a variety of alpines. We’re also adding to the gallery of flora of the San Juan Mountains and surrounding deserts.

Field Trip Plant Lists

The Edge of the Rockies 2021 Conference has 9 field trips where you can experience the Rocky Mountains and its wonderful botanic offerings. Go green and use the Plant List GPS app to view digital plant lists on your phone or iPad. The Plant List GPS app, provided at no cost to conference attendees. If not a phone app user, no worries! Paper plant lists will be available at the conference. Below are the plant list resources for each field trip hike. Download and explore the plants of the field trip before the conference. As conference prep work occurs, lists and reports will be updated.

A number of plant list formats are available. (described below) Once the digital plant list file is imported into the Plant List GPS app, other formats are available on your device. PDF and GPX files are offered for those not using the app and for pre-conference review.

  • Digital plant list — A file that is imported into the Plant List GPS app.

  • GPX plant labeled waypoints — A GPX file containing GPS waypoints of plant locations for those who have a GPS Navigation app. (not Plant List GPS) Helpful for navigation without Internet data connectivity.

Southwest Colorado Wildflowers Website

Here’s an authoritative and overall terrific website for identifying and appreciating mountain and desert flora. It’s called Southwest Colorado Wildflowers and it’s a searchable database for wildflowers, ferns and trees of the Four Corners region (Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico). Citizen-scientist Al Schneider created this awesome tool. The Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory hosts the site. Also, there’s an wildflower ID app available on the site.
